Rethymnon is the third larger city in Crete after Heraklion and Hania. It is renowned for the Venetian port and the superb walled fortress. The old city is a labyrinth of small streets with the buildings and houses of various architectural influences like the Venetian period (you will find there many elements of this period: the loggia, many doors and frontages…) and elements of the Turkish occupation (frontages were employed like galleries of viewing by the women of the harems). Today Réthymnon is a city very Attractive with a picturesque edge of sea strewn with traditional taverns, bars and restaurants modern. A new port equipped with a superb marina which was fixed in 2004. You can see yachts arriving of Chania and other town of Greece and Mediterranean circumference.

In the east of the city you will find the old city with the unbelievable charm (For my opinion one of most beautiful of Crete) with its trade typical and tourist, its restaurants and the beginning of the long sandy beach (5km). This is principal place of tourism of Réthymnon whith hotels, pensions. Rethymnon is located approximately 80 kms of Héraklion. 65 kms of Hania.
